Before Submitting a Request...
 
All public records requests are fulfilled under Massachusetts Public Records Law (M. G. L. Chapter 66). You will receive an initial response within ten (10) business days to the email address provided. Pursuant to Massachusetts Public Records Law, all exemptions will be redacted from any and all material being released.
Please be as specific as possible when requesting information.

Fees
The price of records requests varies. Fees are charged in accordance with Massachusetts Public Records Law (M. G.L. Chapter 66, Section 10). According to the 2010 US Census, the population of Greenfield is 17,456, and thereforethe Town of Greenfield falls under the fee guidelines for “municipalities with populations under 20,000.” Payment must be received before documents are released. 
 
You will be provided with an itemized “good faith estimate” for the cost of complying with your request. The actual cost of producing the record might vary once the municipality begins preparing the record.
 
At this time the Town of Greenfield is not waiving fees for public records. 
 
Review
Requests for public records are public records. Prior to public posting, requests will be reviewed and possibly edited or rejected, consistent with the following:
  • Submissions will be edited to redact or remove sensitive and/or confidential information, such as social security numbers, dates of birth, or other information exempted under M. G. L. Chapter 66;
  • Submissions that are not a request for public records will not be posted; and
  • Submissions containing profanity, obscenity, racial slurs, hate speech, or other discriminatory language will not be posted.
